The premise
The distance between a capable model and a changed business is engineering.
Almost every large company now has access to the same models, and very few have turned that access into an operating advantage. The obstacle is rarely the model. It is the particular mess of systems, data, incentives and habits that makes each company what it is.
Forward deployed engineering exists to close that gap. Instead of selling a product and leaving the customer to work out the rest, a forward deployed engineer goes to the problem, learns the operation from the people who run it, and builds what the situation requires, on the customer’s systems and in the customer’s environment.
